STRESS RELIEVER
The purpose of today’s lesson was to discuss feelings related to stress and healthy ways to manage those feelings. We discussed how stress is a normal part of life and can be positive or negative. For example, students can feel healthy, positive stress when they take the proper time to prepare for a test and know that they are working hard to learn. Stress can become negative when situations become difficult to manage, such as cramming for an exam with little time and resources. Students discussed many healthy ways to relieve and reduce stress including exercising, deep breathing, peer support, time management, listening to music, being artistic, and more. Stress can also have unhealthy side effects such as anger, frustration, avoidance, and physical side effects. We talked about ways to identify those areas and work through the challenges. We ended the lesson by making stress balls from balloons and flour. The students worked together and everyone had fun creating a stress ball they can keep.
